what is basal pneumonitis?
i took my x-ray recently and the result says that i have basal pnemonitis in my right lung but i don't know what it means.. my mother is worried about my condition....

Basal refers to a particular part of the lung. Pneumonitis is a general term for inflammation of lung tissue. Chronic inflammation of lung tissue can lead to irreversible scarring (pulmonary fibrosis). Pneumonitis isn't a specific disease but a sign of an underlying problem. All pneumonias show pneumonitis under the microscope, but not all pneumonitis is pneumonia. Other causes include: Inhalation of foreign matter, usually of stomach contents when vomiting (aspiration pneumonitis) Exposure to an inhaled allergen (hypersensitivity pneumonitis) Adverse reaction to a drug or toxic chemical (drug- or chemical-induced pneumonitis) Radiation therapy to the lung for cancer Sepsis — a body's inflammatory response to infection Signs and symptoms depend on the severity and underlying cause, if known, and may include: Shortness of breath Cough Burning sensation in chest A doctor may diagnose pneumonitis based on: History of the illness Physical examination Chest X-ray or computerized tomography (CT) scan Blood tests Pulmonary function tests Lung biopsy Culture of lung secretions — organisms are grown from a sample of infected secretions Treatment depends on the underlying cause and may include medications such as: Corticosteroids Antibiotics

It is basically mild pneumonia of the lower part of the lungs. It can be caused by presence of foreign particles like food particles, nasal droppings accidentally inhaled, oily atmosphere, prolonged in-activity. You say you took your X-ray , why you took it? What was your physical condition that prompted you to do it? You have not mentioned what medicines your doctor has recommended. Generally a course of antibody drugs can be the remedy. Best thing is take your worrying mom with you to the doctor and let the doctor explain to her what is it and how it can be cured. I hope your mom will be satisfied and you will recover soon. Drop me a line when you recover. Just a after thought-- do you sleep or stay in bed for prolonged hours in one posture? if yes than please change this habbit, try to sleep all over the bed.
