coughing after a cold may not mean that your cold is over yet in fact coughing is the last stage of a cold and then after that your cold is over. |

It's a secret |
The cold irritates your lungs. The cough is the body's reaction to it. Sometimes you get caught in a feedback cycle. The cold causes the cough, which irritates your lungs, which makes you cough more, which irritates your lungs more, and so on. Sometimes this heals up on it's own. Sometimes you need a prescription inhaler to calm it down. This is especially likely if you smoke, as the smoke irritates the lungs too! |

Depends on the type of cough. If it is a productive cough - then you are clearing mucus from your lungs - which is a good thing and you should continue to cough it up. If it a dry cough that comes from a tickle at the back of your throat - then it is probably from post-nasal drip which can be taken care of with a decongestant like sudafed. |
