Has anyone had back surgery for bulging or ruptured disc?
My MRI shows that a nerve is pressed against by a bulging or ruptured disc in my lower back. I am suppose to go to Iowa city to see about it being operated on. If you have had it done or know someone that has. Would you tell me what to expect as to if you were able to get around after wards, how long were you in the hospital, and did it help you or the other person?
I have been to a pain specialist and he would use laser to block the nerve pain. I have had the shots where they put some kind of cushion between the disc's. I would like to know how this operation effected anyone that has had it done?
I have a small herniation in my L5 disc and went to three doctors who all wanted to do some surgery, but I wouldn't be able to do a lof of things I normally do anymore so I said no. I went to a pain management specialist and got injections but they didn't help so I tried two more out-patient surgeries where they burn the nerve off, it really helped the pressure and pain but on my right side I have a little nerve damage so thats the only thing giving me problems. But before you do any surgery always make sure thats the last step, see a pain specialists. If you do decide on surgery and want to be active after or know the after results always ask before you choose one.

I have 2 bulging disc and my Dr. referred me to another Dr. after telling me I would need surgery to correct the painful situation. However, when I saw this specialist she told me no, surgery should be the last resort. She has put 2 shots in my back and it has completely relieved the pain. I can move and do everything I want to again. Please get a second opinion and see a Pain specialist before you let them do surgery.
