Recognize a Simple Partial Seizure
|
Do you find yourself or someone else staring off into space, or slightly shaking part of their bodies? See if it is a Simple Partial Seizure. Steps
- Speak to them and/or touch them- lack of response indicates a seizure.
- Notice their expression- are they staring off into space blankly? This may mean a seizure.
- Look at their body- twitching or shaking may indicate a seizure.
- Ask them about the episode after it passes- if they had a seizure, they may have no memory of what happened and/or deny it.
Tips
- Don't rush to call 911. Chances are the seizure isn't too harmful. Most seizure patients are fine during and after a seizure, and don't need medical help.
- Never try to stop the seizure, just let it continue, but if it doesn't stop soon, then you may want to get medical help.
- Remove all objects from around the person, and help (don't force) then to lie on their side.
Warnings
- If you suspect that this is a first seizure, call 911 as soon as possible, because it could be caused by fatal or very serious illnesses.
