I believe that you mean "sore throat", yes?
That all depends upon what is causing it. Until the cause is treated, it will not go away. If you have a common cold, that runs its course in approximately 14 days. However, depending upon your sinus passages (i.e. are the small, etc.), a cold (or rather th blocked nose caused by the cold) can cause a sinus infection. Sinus infections do not go away without antibiotics. If you have allergies, then you will continue to be stuffed up until whatever you are allergic to goes away (if it is something like pollen, you won't feel better until the first hard freeze). Again, an allergic reaction can cause sinus blockages, which allow a sinus infection to grow.
The sore throat is being caused by all the post nasal drainage. Mucus from your blocked nose is draining down the back of your throat, causing the soreness.
If the mucus is green, you have a sinus infection, and you'll need to see a doctor. If it is yellow or clear, you don't have an infection.
Try this, take a small towel, get it wet, and microwave it (a minute or two). Then roll it up inside of a dry towel. Lay this across your neck, so that it covers your jugular. This will warm your blood, which in turn will warm your mucus. Now some people would tell you to put the warm cloth on your face, but that expands your sinus cavities as well as your mucus. Warming your blood will warm, and thus expand, your mucus first. This will cause the mucus to forced its way out of the sinuses, and hopefully once the flow is started, it will continue to drain. If you take a hot shower, let the water run on your jugular for a while - same net effect, though the microwave can cause the water to be sligthly "superheated". |
