Nick W | stomach bug prevention? |
fI am pretty sure my mom has a slight stomach bug, today she has had a fever and has felt off. Recently in the car she felt a bit nauseous, and had cramps. The only reason I am really asking this is because I am emotophobic, and on top of that i have acid reflux. I know to wash hands frequently, not to come in much physical contact with the person etc. I am drinking sprite, and have antacids like tums, is there any way to prevent this bug, and or vomiting. Thanks |

Has she vomited or had diarrhea yet? if not, it might just be something she ate.
Prevention of Norwalk virus:
Washing your hands is crucial! you cannot kill the virus by washing your hands, but you are washing it down the sink.Antibacterial soaps won't kill viruses.
Wash your hands before you touch your face,mouth, eyes and nose.Before you eat, prepare meals,brush your teeth etc.
The only way to contract this virus is by ingesting the vomit/fecal particles through your mouth,nose or eyes.It is not airborne like common colds or the flu (than god!) unless you are standing in close range to a vomiting person.
Tell your mom to wash her hands every time for at least 15-20 seconds after vomiting or going #2 to prevent from spreading the virus.
Anything she eats or drinks should be washed carefully (only if she's been vomiting)
Clean up should be used with bleach/water solution.
Hand sanitizers will not work.

Your mom has viral gastroenteritis.
it is transmitted by fecal- oral route, meaning that to get the germ, you have to eat it.
make sure Mom washes hands thorougly after vomiting or bowel movements.
make sure you wash your hands thoroughly before eating -- the danger to you is that you'll have the virus on your hands, from touching Mom, and then you'll eat a sandwich and thus eat the germs on your hands.
there is nothing you can eat that will kill the virus in your stomach. however you can make yourself MORE susceptible to GI infections if you take antacids or acid-supressing drugs like omeprazole, zantac, or pepcid. So avoid those. |
