I would like to know what would be a reasonable amount to settle for with my insurance (personal injury)?
My mother's car was hit by an uninsured motorist. The accident took place about a month ago. Our car insurance provides coverage for reasonable medical expenses, and pain and suffering caused by uninsured motorists. My mother visited urgent care center following the accident and twice visited her physician. She did not suffer any fractures that we know of or any permanent damage, but the accident caused her pain and the pain did not completely disappear yet. She incurred around $400 in medical bills. I would like to know what would be a reasonable amount to settle for with our insurance.
Something close to this same scenario happened to my wife many years ago and we went to a law firm to get legal counsel. They settled with the Insurance for approximately the same dollar amount the Insurance company offered us and took about half for themselves and thanked us very graciously. There are 'preset' dollar amounts for damages that the Insurance companies go by and the courts recognize as standard for the industry. Try settling with your Insurance first.

You can either wait until the pain has subsided and you have a reasonable idea of how it affected the activities of daily living over the long term. You can also just pick a number and see how the carrier reacts.
Personally, in this scenario, I would probably either consult a lawyer or go with "just pick a number". Pain is a hard thing to quantify.
