Lou | Bad Smoking Problem.. |
Alright, so I've been smoking a pack or two a week every week for the past two years. Yeah I know not so healthy, but not as bad as other people. I have finally gotten to the point where I need to stop because it is truly taking it's toll on me. I can consider myself addicted and I have to stop. I'm going into 11th grade and I can barely run 5 minutes without having to gasp for air. And all the time I say I have to quit but I find myself chasing for more. What things should I do so I can completely stop?
I've also been having trouble breathing, constant chest pain, and a very itchy throat.
I'm always around smokers. |

The good news is that's not very heavy, so the addiction won't be very bad. But the flip side of that is that most stop smoking meds won't work for you or risk making your habit worse. Set a quit date and throw away your cigarettes. Know that you can't slip -- even one will bring the addiction crashing back. That should be it. If that *doesn't* work, get some of the Commit nicotine lozenges and use them in lieu of cigarettes. You'll have to experiment to get the dose right. (The patch will be too much for you and will make your addiction worse, and the gum is hard to use.) But given that you aren't smoking heavily, I think cold turkey will be OK. |

Tell your parent or maybe a counselor if you dont want to tell your parents. They can get you some nicotine patches or other methods so you can stop. Besides if you tell someone you will have more support and encouragement. |

Just get packs of gum, usually people smoke because they're bored and they're around. If you can just chew the gum and do something else, you'll forget about it. Just think about how much damage you're doing to your lungs every time you light one up. Is the irreversible damage to your lungs and heart really worth the 5 minutes of your cigarette? I used to have the same problem, but for most people, your conscious overrides your need to inhale cancer. |

try anti-smoking gum, or a nicotine patch, and try to stay away from others who are smoking |
