i drink very rarely. I may have a single drink by my pool, but only if I know I won't have to leave anytime soon. I drink a bit on vacation, but never if I must drive. Of course I end up designated driver every freakin' time.
I drank very little, but for my 27th b-day we went to a bar, where I had 13 shots. I was taken home, and left alone. It was a lousy evening and crappy next day. who took care of me? No one. Only I take care of me. That's one reason I don't drink much at all. |

I drink socially with friends, but I never let myself get drunk - I like staying in control. It helps you socialize. You loosen up. It's important not to over do it, though... |

I agree its as if they have become a different person- more stupid! I don't drink and I don't see the point of getting drunk. I suppose its what most people would call "fun". |

Some people drink to get drunk, some people drink to relax/chill, some people drink to socialize. Not everyone who drinks, drinks to get drunk. People who do drink to get drunk are over medicating and may need some type of help. Alcohol can change people, no doubt about it. It's an individuals choice on being a responsible drinker. |

Alcohol is actually a 'depressant', the alcohol dehydrates your body and affects it terrbly while you are intoxicated. kills brain cells, lowers inhibitions...
2 glasses of red wine show great benifits in preventing heart disease, or even studies show that going to the pub for a few beers after work, can be a great way for people to unwind from their job and socialise, as long as they watch their limit.
Alcohol can be an amazing journey if consumed and enjoyed appropietley...like coffee....
but must be drunken responsibly.. |

I'm also a non-drinker, as well as my husband. He used to drink, and I've asked him the same thing-- He said he drank because it tasted good (he also said it's an acquired taste), it was a way to relax, get away from his problems for a while, etc.
I personally think that there are other drinks that taste better than beer (that's what my husband drank) or wine (smells like flavored vinegar, to me), there are other ways to relax and get away from problems that are less likely to embarrass you later on. |

I don't know, I'm not a big drinker either. I've never had more than one drink in a particular day. I think people act pretty dumb when they're drunk and getting sick/having a hangover isn't appealing. |

There are those who enjoy drinking because it relaxes inhibitions and they "back out" of their daily stresses. Then, there are those that have crossed the line into addiction and they have no choice but to drink alcohol. |

There is a difference between drinking, and drinking too much.
As with eating food we do it not just to keep us alive but for the pleasure of taste, the flavours the feeling.
In drinking various beverages, tea, coffee, chocolate, water, Coke, or beer, wines and spirits we are allowing our bodies and minds to experience different tastes, feelings and moods.
The alcohol also relaxes one and encourages conversation. |

I drink- but it actually helps to calm me down. I have a lot a problems with anxiety and things like that so it helps me. I don't drink excessively or that often, but when I do it helps me to be a lot more outgoing- I'm not saying that alcohol is the solution if you have anxiety problems- but it helps me. |

Yeah I don't drink either. Its hard to find people who feel that way when you get older though. There are worse things people can do, and I guess if someone drinks without getting completely hammered it doesn't bother me. |

Are you ill? LOL sorry just kidding, I actually find it quite admirable that you won't do something that you are unsure of.
The reason we enjoy to drink is that it allows you the freedom to do what you feel like at the exact moment you feel like doing it... As long as you don't get too drunk and lairy, or worse, end up in a heap LOL. I guess as an example, at least from a bloke's point of view, it is hard to free yourself up enough to dance like noones watching until you've got a few inside you; in other words it lowers your awareness in terms of self-consciousness. Say you've liked someone for a little while but you've never had the guts to approach him/her, a bit of dutch courage and you'll soon find yourself ready to put yourself out there.
Though I absolutely agree that too much alcohol turns some people into someone annoying and generally unpleasant to be around, and some people that it's downright dangerous to be around. But as long as you drink responsibly everything's usually OK. |

I believe that you can drink without getting out of control. So my answer really only applies to people that control their drinking. Maybe people like to drink a beer or a glass of wine because it lowers your inhibitions, and your insecurities and your worries about what other people think of you are lessened. That can be a really good thing for people if they tend to be shy or self-conscious or uptight. AND, speaking from experience, it can be fun to be drunk, if you are with a group of people you trust, and you can just be silly and have fun and not have to worry about putting yourself in a dangerous situation. |

You feel relaxed and you get a warm fuzzy head, the more you drink the more your head becomes fuzzy. You lose your inhibitions and worry less what people think of you, so i guess it gives you confidence too. There's different levels of drinking and not everyone goes around like nutters being abusive, sick and paraletic |

Not everyone is a bad drunk. I am actually quite pleasent after a drink. First of all it tastes nice, secondly if you are at a party or some sort of social event then it helps people like me to just relax.
I have never been hammered or anything but when I have had a drink I am friendly, happier and fun loving.
So not everyone is a loud mouthed violent smelly t*** after a drink.
The difference between someone like that and me is that I drink very responsibly, I know what I can take and I know when to stop. |

I agree with you totally that people change so much when drunk and that's so sad, all I can say is they must have something major lacking in their lives if they have to get out of their tree with drink, I have seen people go from the sweetest angels to complete thugs through drink, sad, very sad and no need for it, they need to get a life, get a grip cause overdoing drink just ain't hip, don't drink and drive, respect all life. |
