Not always. Some of the contraindications are terrible. If you ever have a bad reaction from some prescription drugs, stop taking them, tell your GP why you stopped and do not let them talk you back into taking them if you feel sick because of them. They should be able to offer you an alternative instead.

When taken properly the benefits outweigh the consequences. You should understand that anything you ingest and arguably do has potential negative side effects and pharmaceutical drugs are no different. Even exercise has negative effects on the body, but the benefits to your health and body overall far outweigh them. Provided you are not abusing pharmaceuticals and are sticking to the schedule they should be beneficial to you. There are always a few rare cases in which there is a bad reaction, but this is not limited to the realm of pharmaceuticals either.
