Well I have has asthma for 20 years and im 20 years old. SO i know alot, some common symptoms are:
Tight chest, labored breathing, wheezing, itchy under my chin, coughing up mucus, usually clear and greenish but light color, head ache, young childrens fingers can turn blue when they dont get enough oxygen, you can get light headed, faint feeling, chest cramps, chest pain, and no one seems to understand how that feels!!! I go to the doctor sometimes when its really bad, and they make me wait, and act like its no big deal. OH here is a horrible story for you about asthma.
This mother brings her 2 year old son in to the ER because of a severe asthma attack. The nurses tell her to calm down because her reaction is causing him to freak out and have a panic attack. She keep telling them he has asthma but the didnt believe her. They said it was her, she was too loud and crazy and needed to calm down. The son gasped for his last breathe while the nurses blamed the mothers reaction to the situation. He died at age 2 from asthma attack IN THE ER. And no one believed the mother when she said he had asthma. All he needed was some pure oxygen and some abuterol. Sad sad story. Okay so good luck getting the medication you need. Dont forget spacers (aerotubes) for inhailers, and nebulizers (motorized air machine to vaporize liquid medicine) and peak flow meters.
Good Luck! |

Asthma is not an allergy or something you "catch" Asthma is a genetic disease. Symptoms are chronic shortness of breath and coughing up phlegm. Many people with breathing problems call it "Asthma". Lame doctors call allergies "Asthma". A real Asthma attack could take your life because its like a vice is slowly squeezing your lungs. Asthma is treatable but not curable. However, a lot of people do somehow "grow out of the symptoms" but the disease is still there. I suggest you get tests for allergies. Allergies do cause Asthma like symptoms |

I coughed a lot when I went to bed and when I woke up. I went to an allergy Dr. and had test done and I am allergic to dust mites. I had to seal my mattress , box spring and pillows with special coverings. It sure helped me. |

It's different for different people, but I get out of breath easily if I do exercise, get lots of chest infections, and have a cough most of the year, generally worse at night. People smoking near me, and car fumes, make me cough a lot. Oh, and I get asthma attacks randomly or because of one of my triggers - your chest feels all tight and you can't breathe properly.
You should go to your doctor, they can do tests (like peak flow meter). |

Yea i had it but my asthma nurse says "it can come round in 7 year cycles" so i could come back for me.
sore throat, wheezeing, coughing, i suffer from really bad hay fever so anything like that.
some people collaspe due to asthma attacks. I had one but was rather minor.
I was given two inhailers one instanly opens your airways which are constricting (asthma). the other is a slow release that keeps them open through out the day. |

Asthma is typically difficulties breathing...but not in as everyone believes...it is out....
Symptoms; the most common are:
Wheezy cough which is worse on exertion
Waking in the early morning with a cough
Cough at night once you lay down in bed.
If you have any of the above, visit the Dr for help. |

one feels short of breath, like you have to breath more deeply to get the same amount of air. wheezing is also very common.depending on the person, you could have allergy induced asthma or asthma activated by doing sports/ exercise. you should go to a specialist, and get a check up. I have asthma. you can develop it from pneumonia, or just during the course of your life. you might have allergy related problems with animals, like cats, or pollen. If your asthma is bad, then carry an inhaler with you all the time. A really good asthma medicine I recommend is 'Foradil', it lasts 24hrs, and really helps you breath better than regular inhalers. Its a powder you breath in in a capsule with a special inhaler you use it with. I think its from France, but not sure. If your asthma is that bad, then ask your doctor about it. |

sometimes in summer i need to use an asthma inhaler, but if i use my hayfever medicines properly i don't usuallt need it.
It sometimes starts with a tickly cough that won't go away particulary when lying down. other times my chest just get heavier and its some times harder to breath out than in!
Some times a certain smell or taste can make my chest tighten in the same way but this only happens for a few breaths and then it goes away! I think this is my sensory system sending messages for me to protect mysef from something potentialy harmful. |

Yes i too have asthma, i get short of breathe, and sometimes my chest is tight. When my chest gets tight, it feels as if someone is standing on my chest. I have a slight cough, all year around, but not like having a cold kind of cough. I cough up phelm sometimes. And i can't be around cigarette smoke at all.Sometimes when the seasons change it bothers my breathing. But i have become pretty acustom to my situation now. And i try to never leave home with out my inhaler, and i try not to over do it, like running for the bus, i wait on the next one. Or running up the stairs at work to quickly. I have learned to pace my self. And i thank God every day for the air i breathe, because living with asthma makes you appreciate every breathe you take! |

The symptoms of asthma is shortness of breath, weezing, and sometimes a little lightheaded. If you feel you have a shortness of breath and hear like this weezing sound when you try to breathe, it's likely you have asthma. |

The symptoms can actually be different for some people, and same for others. If you're worried that you have asthma, I suggest you go see doctor and get treatment for it right away. |

Please, if you have any reason to think that you have asthma, go get checked by a doctor! A friend of ours just died of asthma complications...he was 35. It can be controlled, but you really need to get this checked out. Your life could depend on it. |
