It could be mild labyrinthitis. What is it?
The inner ear, or labyrinth, contains a series of fluid-filled semicircular canals whose function is to maintain the body's sense of balance In lybyrinthitis, this area becomes inflamed, causing vertigo, which is usually severe. This is a sensation that your surroundings are spinning around you. It is different from mere lightheadedness, or feeling faint. The vertigo is usually accompanied by some degree of hearing loss and tinnitus. Recovery may take up to several weeks, and some hearing loss may remain permanently. Also, rapid head movements may cause mild, transient vertigo for some time afterward. The cause of lybyrinthitis is unknown, but it often seems to be associated with an earlier upper respiratory tract illness.
