Can quitting smoking have the short term effect of tightening ur throat so u cant control ur singing voice?
i have to sing at a wedding on sunday, so i've greatly reduced my smoking the last couple of days. problem is, i feel as if my throat is now even MORE constrained and i have less control of my voice and cant reach the heights i was able to hit days ago while smoking! can this be because of my reduction, so i should continue smoking like i always did, or is it just a coincidence and i should NOT smoke until the wedding and hope it goes away??? HELP!!!
well it's probably because you were really addicted to smoking or because you just have to wait. Same with my family, they cant speak very well after they stop but it gets better soon. If you start again it just makesit worse and it wont help. Talk to your doctor and they might give you something. It might be that smoke ran through your throat alot and you have to go to a doctor so they giev you something to lubricate ur throat.

Not smoking sould not cause you to have a sore throat. Its proven that when you quit smoking your lungs will start to clear up. Your chance of heart attack and stoke will reduce. I only know this because I am a nurse and I am also a former smoker. Maybe you strained your muscles in your throat.Hopefully your throat will get to feeling better. Try some salt water and see if that helps. Good luck.

Your throat might have gotten so used to having all the smoke particles and what not in your throat that now since you don't smoke as much. It might just take a while for your throat to get used to it. Just don't go back to old smoking habits.

If your problem has anything to do with your smoking, I would guess that your body is adjusting to not having to work as hard and is actually overcompensating because it is used to working harder. The problem should be only fleeting, but I couldn't tell you for sure. Also, some people's signature sounds come from the damage they do to themselves from smoking and drinking. Though, in the long term, I would say that quitting smoking could only benefit you and your health. You could try throat drops to help ease your throat as it may be straining itself. Menthol (not cigs) works wonders in that regard.

its weird, they say if you can sing not to change anything that you do. Plus when you cut back or quit smoking, anxiety can be a factor which can be the cause your throat tightening up.
