How do you know if your child has leukemia?
her symptoms are (for the past year), temp between 99-100 every couple days, severe abdominal pain, belly feels hard, weight loss of five pounds in the last couple of months, severe leg pain at night, i have to carry her sometimes, very pale in color and has dark circles under her eyes, headaches.. we got an abdominal xray and blood work.. her xray was normal, the blood work showed elevated wbc, platelets and decreased hemoglobin
well to try and prevent cancers.... do not feed kids hot dogs and fast food and try to feed them as much organic food as possible. also use only organic shampoo lotion soap on their bodies and use only non toxic cleaning suppplies around the house.... preferably seventh generation or any at your local health food store. oh and only use organic sunscreen cuz that is a major contributor to cancer as welll
sorry but i have been doing alternative cancer research for years now just trying to help..

my friend going though the same thing with her child and they she doing well hang in there. I would take her to saint jude there the best hospial in childhood cancer if I can do anything let me know.
Okay, I was diagnosed with AML leukemia when I was 16. I am 18 now. but if your daughter had leukemia, she would probably not make it through a year without treatment.
for about 4 months before I was diagnosed, I had terrible neck pains. then about a week before I was diagnosed, I lost 15 lbs. because I quit eating. I was sleeping constantly. At one point I fell asleep in the middle of changing my clothes. I literally couldn't make it an hour without having to lie down. Weird bruises would appear on my skin, and I would have no idea of how they got there.

all info u'd ever want to (not) know about leukemia.
I'd say take the child to an ER! Kick and scream, tell them what's been going on for 1 year!!!!!! Tell them you think it's not just a cold and that they should be thorough. The family doctor may not be very good at making calls like this...in my family's case, she didn't really help much with diagnosing leukemia (well actually it's not her fault, this was an acute version)..so it was ER that diagnosed. So take the child to an ER!!!!
The way leukemia is diagnosed is with a bone marrow biopsy. This is a very painful procedure, so..other stuff should be ruled out bef exposing a child to this, I hope.
Don't sit around and wait...if you suspect things...go to the ER, let them investigate...if you're not happy talk to them.

A bone marrow biopsy is what is used to make an official diagnosis.
Honestly though, I doubt this is whats going on. The temp could be her natural body temp if she is running that consistently. 98.6 is just an average. I range from 95-98.
abdominal pain and hard belly are symptoms of constipation. Which can also cause fever. Leg pain can be caused by potassium deffiency. Elevated wbc just means she has an infection somewhere. Decreased hemoglobin is an iron deffiency.
If she has been having these symptoms for over a year, she doesnt have leukemia. Most leukemias in children are acute, meaning you would know by now and she would be deathly sick.
Being very pale and dark circles under eye is a reuslt of the anemia. I would reason to say that your daughter needs a more balanced diet with a daily vitamin. But, I am not a doc.
Only a bone marrow biopsy can officially diagnose leukemia.

I agree with reply given by Midnightmoon.
Had it been leukemia, it would not have lasted for a year. However, it is equally important that you should not wait till something sever happen.
Severe Anemia sometime transform into leukemia.
I would suggest you to explore Exercises which can be done comfortably by the child, Laughter Therapy, Yoga, Pranayam and other things in addition to medicines.
Constipation, Allergy etc. are indicate that child is not getting enough attention, care and emotional support from parents. You need to provide these things to your child.

What are her doctors telling you? Please ask for a consultation, with her doctor & ask him what he thinks is wrong with her, an elevated wbc, could be something like an infection in her body, or leukemia or a number of things, you need to ask your doctor some VERY important questions about your daughters health. Believe me I know I have leukemia, & my doctors were very helpful in telling me & in my treatments.
