Depending on the status of the friendship or relationship, I would say offer to take them maybe to the appointments, be a shoulder to cry on, sometimes just hold their hand and let them talk.
JUST ME
JUST TRY TO MAKE THEM HAPPIER THIS IS REALLY BAD SINCE MY MOM HAS LEUKEMIA AND IM ALWAYS TRYING TO HELP HER GET HER MING OF THAT BY WATCHING TV TOGETHER, TALKING, OR DOING OTHER STUFF...

Be there and listen.
Sometimes not trying too hard and just "be there" is the best.
Nice one
I highly suggest just treat them normally like you would anyone else. You may want to check support groups. They may have helpful links at WebMD or St. Judes or Cancer Treatment Centers of America or any hospital by you. Perhaps Ronald McDonald House charities? There is so much online at your instant request. A cousin had it & everyone just ignored it. He perferred it that way. A friend had it & she wanted to talk. They also wanted to be strong & healthy again & both are now but it was a long road. Little things like showing up to hang even if you know they will pass out from exhaustion after treatment for awhile or watching a movie. Whatever you do, being there when they need you matters. The didn't like pity they needed a friend. Hope this helps.

Well, I am 18 and I was diagnosed with AML leukemia when I was 16, and I just finished treatments 9 months ago. I normally didn't want to talk about anything to anyone (at least if it was about cancer), but make sure that you are there to visit that person often, even though it may be akward for you. When I was diagnosed, only a couple of my friends came to visit and they only came once or twice. I became very depressed, and I figured that no one cared enough about me to come and say HI even. But then after it was all done, I realized that they were all just afraid to come and visit because they didn't know what to say, or they felt very weird because I was so sick. But make sure your there for that person because that can be the best thing for them sometimes. Also, when I was in the hospital, I stayed for a long time. About a month at a time, for a whole year. So my mom brought me scrabble and boggle, and I became an expert at it. So maybe visit and bring a board game, it is really fun and totally takes you mind off of everything.
I hope this helps a little, and if you ever want to know anything else, feel free to e-mail me. I was in for a long time, so I have great tips on how to pass time.
