My boyfriend told me last night that he has herpes. I've never had an outbreak. Did I give it to him?
We were together for about a year and a half and broke up in October. We were apart for about six months and during that time I dated someone else and had a couple of one night stands. I'm not proud of what I did, but being away from him made me appreciate how he treats me and how much he loves me so much more.
He says he was not with anyone else during that time, and that I am the only girl he has ever been with without using a condom.
So unless he's lying about that (which I doubt) he probably got this from me.
I have never had a herpes outbreak...that I know of.
Is it possible that I gave it to him without ever having an outbreak myself?
I have an appointment to get tested on Tuesday (my next day off) and I want to know what to expect.
He was tested Monday and got his results yesterday (Wednesday). His doctor prescribed Valtrex and recommended he take Lysine.
Both of you can get healed ! Just call this prayerline. 9182581588. With God all things are possible.

I read most people have the dormant virus so I would say no.
A lot of couples have one partner with and one without and stay that way for twenty or more years.
Don't let it worry you too much.

It is possible to have and give the virus to other people while showing no symptoms yourself. If you have no sores that can be swabbed for a herpes culture the only other test that can be done to see if you have it would be antibody levels. You can have blood drawn for HSV-1 and HSV-2 IgG levels. If those are both negative and you have never had symptoms yourself then I would doubt your boyfriend's story.

First, get a blood test. It is the only way to know if you have it or not.
Second, Herpes can be very elusive. It can stay dormant for years and can also be spread even when you are using condoms. Therefore, I hate to say it, but you two may never know exactly where it came from. There is no point trying to figure out who is to blame.
Third, if you are in a loving relationship, living with Herpes isn't that hard. You can use medications for suppressive therapy or just when you have outbreaks.
Good luck!

I've had herpes for 13 yrs now. I cried and thought the world was coming to an end when I got my results. It's a hard hit when you hear "You have herpes" and you're stuck with it for the rest of your life. My first couple of years was pretty tough. I had outbreak after outbreak and couldn't seem to get a hold on it. It took a good 3 yrs for me to understand it and how my body would react and things that I could control that would trigger an outbreak. I have 2 wonderful children, both natural deliveries. I am married, second time around to a wonderful man. He doesn't have herpes, I hope he never gets it.
I'm actually kind of glad I got herpes. Yeah that sounds kinda weird, but it taught me to protect myself. I never used protection and had many one nighters. If I hadn't gotten herpes and stopped being stupid I could have gotten HIV.
So my life is pretty normal living with herpes. If you find out you don't have it. Then you need to have a heart to heart with your boyfriend! Good luck and I'll keep my fingers crossed for some good news.

yes females may never have an external out break , but he may have contracted the virus even though he used a condom , because condoms does not give protection against the herpes virus
