Is it true that even if you stop today after like 15 yrs of smoking that the damage is already done?
it's different for everyone. some people can smoke their whole lives and live till they are 100, others are not so lucky.

no ..u will not reverse the damage already done but u can rebuild ur lungs to a point. u gain a day of ur life back when u stop. get more energy . breathe easier. feel better

it depends on the person but for every week, month, year, decade after you quit smoking your body is already healing itself an after a certain amount of years your body will be healthy like your a non-smoker

You’d be surprised what your body can do to heal itself. Here are some web pages I found that show the benefits of quitting. “Within 12 hours after you have your last cigarette, your body will begin to heal itself. The levels of carbon monoxide and nicotine in your system will decline rapidly, and your heart and lungs will begin to repair the damage caused by cigarette smoke.
The lungs are obviously damaged, every single cigarette smoked takes one day of a life time.. so stopping smoking buys you one more day.
Going to the gym and eating vegetables and fruits rich in antitoxins can help detox your body from the nicotine and help your lungs function better.

Many of the effects of smoking are reversed when you stop smoking. It's worth it to stop smoking, even if 100% of effects aren't reversible.
Best wishes

Yes, your lungs DO heal. Some depends on what kind of damage occurred before, but both my Dad and I quit smoking in 1990 and there is absolutely no evidence of any lung damage only 5 years after we quit (both of us were slightly less than pack-a-day--me for 17 years, Dad, about 27 years). Even my scar tissue from pnemonia was gone.

yes they can, as long as nothing serious has happened, but if you already have cancer/emphysema then they will not heal by quitting.
I know EVERYTHING!
it is never too late to quit, yes damage has been done but a person can significantly reduce their risk of disease by quiting, no matter how long they were a smoker.

Most of the damage will repair itself given time.

they can heal, but continuing will make it worse

Honey, I'm so glad that you asked this question. I'm always glad to talk to people about the damage of smoking. Because of a cigarette I have lost by mother, two brothers, two sister in laws, another one at Heaven's door, and several other relatives.
Now to your question do lungs ever heal, well probably not, but they won't get any worse. My youngest brother smoked for about forty years until his little grand daughter asked him to quit a few years ago. He still has emphysema, but the doctor said it hasn't gotten any worse in the years he has been quit. So please throw those death traps away and live a longer life. It may not be easy, but you have one alternative. I'll be praying for you .
