What is the difference in level 3 and stage 3 cancer?
theyre synonymns. theyre 2 different terms for the same thing.
liselotte b
there is no level 3. stage 3 is a term used for many cancers that had spread. it is an inadequate term, "systemic" is better. "level 3" does not exist in medicine.
starla_c
They are one in the same using the terms interchangeably.

I believe they are the same BUT if you are looking at a mammogram (for instance) -- I had breast cancer before and the results of the mammogram were a "level 5" meaning they were positive it was there but STILL needed a biopsy. I had the biopsy and had the cancer BUT I was at Stage 1 cancer and survived. SO IT DEPENDS on what you are talking about. You can email me if you want. I don't know where this information came from that you are writing me about. Oh.....and I'm a cancer survivor -- it was quite a few years ago.

Same thing, different names.

Level 3 refers to the depth of invasion into the skin of a melanoma; two doctors have different systems (Clark and Breslow). If it's not melanoma, I'm not sure what Level 3 would mean.
Stage 3 has do to with how far along a cancer is overall. While not universal, the most commonly used staging system is the AJCC staging system. It determines stage in most cases by TNM (tumor, nodes, metastasis).
Both help with making decisions about treatment and what to expect in the future. For level or stage the lower the number the better (1 is better than 4). I hope that makes sense!
