What will my dentist do if I have impacted wisdom teeth and no dental coverage till next year?
I am in a lot of pain. One of my impacted wisdom teeth is trying to erupt. My dental insurance will not cover anything until May of next year.
I am having a sharp, shooting pain in my head and ear- it has been going on for days and is hardly tolerable.
Is there ANYTHING the dentist can do to help me? I am pretty much broke so I can't pay on my own- but I don't think I can wait until May for help with this issue.
talk to them.... i had no money and needed crowns...7 of them...i talked to dds and made deal for 100 a month ...after a few yrs i had new crowns and he got paid

See if he will work out a payment plan. You obviously can't wait until May.
You also may want to see if there is a college or university close to yo that has a dental clinic. These places offer services at greatly reduced rates.
Whatever yo do, hurry! An impacted wisdom tooth is nothing to fool around with.

find a dentist that will take low monthly payments, phone around. someone who's been in the profession forever and isn't a struggling new dentist.

you can get medications for the condition from the dentist or he could put a dressing on the tooth if it is damaged, you could also check with the local dentral teaching hospital and in many instances you could get your tooth out at the teaching hospital with minimal expense

If it's hurting you that bad- and since it's impacted- you should see a dentist right away. Impacted wisdom teeth can lead to problems, but you don't have dental coverage, see if you can find a dental clinic for patients who don't have insurance. My mom works in one, and their prices are reasonable. But see your dentist and see what he/she would reccomend, and ask about clinics where you can go to get the treatment you need.

Sometimes wisdom teeth try to come out, then settle back down. You can try to deal with the pain until you have coverage. This may cause other dental problems such as an abcess or the shifting of your other teeth resulting in a poor cosmetic look. The dentist may be willing to take care of the problem with a down payment and a payment plan. Some dentists also offer what amounts to a dental credit card. You pay interest and minimum monthly payments. Just ask. The worst he or she can do is say no. Also remember that most dental insurances cover only a portion of dental work and only up to a certain dollar amount per year. It might not make that much difference to wait in agony until may Good luck.

Explain your situation to him and see if he will accept payments. If not, find out if you qualify for Medicaid.

You will have (1) of 3 choices.
1. If the tooth is infected, he can give you someanti-biotics to get you by.
2. He may perform the procedure, and offer you a payment plan.
3. Just advise you to take plenty of pain meds.

It looks like you are pretty stuck. They can not do work and not be paid. They won't do work and bill later with a different date beucase that is considered insurance fraud. You might have to find out if they will let you do a pyamnet plan, or go an apply for credit thourgh their office for a dental credit card. Wisdom teeth are painful and can cause pressure and pain that hurts your mouth, your ears and your sinuses. Everything is close together and connected. I am sorry you hurt so much. Try some Tylenol and warm compresses for now and swich with some warm salt water when you think of it as well. I know how you feel, I have been in the same situation! I hope all goes well for you!
