Raw eggs used to be recommended for anemia etc, but the danger of getting salmonella or listeriosis from raw egg more than outweighs any health risks.
If you MUST consume raw eggs, make sure they are absolutely fresh (buy from the farmer who has the hen who did the laying), and make sure to wipe the shell off with a cloth dampened with disinfectant solution before cracking it. Consume the egg IMMEDIATELY.
There are much better alternatives available than raw eggs! |

NO!!!
Raw eggs carry SALMONELLA! Salmonella infection can cause fevers, severe diarrhea, cramping, nausea and vomiting. Sickness lasts for a week or so, and usually starts one to three days following ingestion of contaminated foods (OFTEN uncooked eggs!). It is not fun to be sick with Salmonella.
There are better sources of protein you can drink. You can buy whey powder at the health food store and mix it with pasteurized skim milk if you really want good protein. NEVER drink a raw egg. The risk to your health is too great. |

No. In addition to the potential of bacterial poisoning, there is the risk of biotin deficiency in consuming raw eggs. Raw eggs contain a substance known as avidin, that binds to the vitamin biotin, making it unavailable for digestion and absorption by the human digestive system. |

The ignorants aside
chances for catching salmonella are quite slim although excistant. Think about it every time you had mayonaise, egg nog, or other products using raw eggs you'd be infecting yourself. I think we would all have caught the Infection by now. There's nothing wrong with eating raw eggs However take into account that your body has a hard time digesting raw eggs. So to many could lead to severe stomach problems or liver pains. |

Sure, why not?
You can eat raw meat, raw fruit, and raw vegetables, and drink unpasteurized milk, so why not raw eggs?
The reason we cook food is to kill bacteria and parasites. If the egg is within the "best before" date, I'd say it's perfectly safe to eat.
Eggs rarely contains nasty parasites. After all, they have a hard protective shell around them. |

I would only drink eggs that have been pasturized. There are some brands which pasturize eggs, just look on the box. Otherwise you are risking salmonella. |
