It's a persons choice weather they want to smoke it or not, they know the side effects and they still do it.
people still smoke weed, and do cocaine,
illegalizing cigaretter won't help much, after all, people will find a way to smoke them. |

Should overeating and obesity be illegal? They are both choices. |

yes I hate the smell of them, and the fact it is so poisonous yes they should be illegal |

Yeah!
So should
-beer
-wine
-fast food
-fried food
-liqour
-eating too much sweets
-oil saturated fats
-processed foods
-preservitives
-the right to choose
-freedom
Lets just tie everyone up and give them helmets and tell them what to do every second of everyday. Obviously people can't think for themselves anymore. |

Perhaps it would be easier not to "ban" the use of anything, but simply require absolute truth in labeling & marketing ("last year, 41,679 died as a result of using this product") and focus on educating people. That way, if you die from smoking too much, drinking too much, or using too much heroin, it would be mostly because you were stupid, so would contribute to the reduction in the level of stupidity in the broader population... |

No. People know of the risks and dangers of smoking, but start doing it anyway.
Alcohol also causes many deaths, as well as driving, yet they are not illegal. People have the rights to make their own choices, whether they be "good" or "bad". |

IMO, Yes, they should be deemed illegal because far too many people die from the carcinogens in them. I've seen too many ppl who were/are also affected by second hand smoke become gravely ill and it is just a very sad situation to witness. |

NO. BOTTOM LINE. Because if people want to abuse their bodies by having a cigarette then they should be respected in their decision to do so, provided they smoke away from those who do not smoke. And anyway, if smoking was illegal there would be a HUGE black market, just like drugs, thus fuelling crime. And havent smokers been persecuted enough lately? I know that they cause cancer and death, but who wants to be 90 anyway?:) |

Unban less harmful drugs like weed and LSD.

I am a non-smoker, but I do believe there is too much to be lost by banning smoking ... first of all, it's a proven method to help people relax, and in the get up and go type country we live in, it's not a bad thing to light up and calm down now and then .. secondly, many people use it, not just as an ice breaker, but as a means of socialization .. I have a hard time picturing a night life with people that can't stand around and share a smoke ...
Third and most importantly, a countrywide ban on smoking would put tobacco companies out of business and cost thousands of jobs .. whether or not you're a supporter of smoking, cutting out an entire workforce and putting families in very difficult positions is not right ..
People are aware of the effects of smoking ... if they want to do it, let them do it .. we're talking about free will |

i think they should. for the sake of those who lose loved ones due to it. and those that have to put up with their friends smoking because they dont want to fall out over that. the individual chooses to smoke. but those that love them dont choose to lose them. |

If smokers would make it so we wouldn't have to smell their crap, I don't care. When their "right to smoke" inflicts upon my "right to breathe" I have a problem.
For example, there is a smoking area at Disneyland. Some will smoke in other areas. I have a chronic cough already. I can't breathe when I'm around this junk! |

Humans have pretty developed brain, and they should decide whether they want to be harmed by something or not. It does not make any sense to forbid everything. People should learn to think for themselves. |

No, but i agree that they should only sell small quantities of cigs at a time |

They probably should be illegal but the sales on them is what "helps" keep our taxes lowers. Also, if they were illegal, there would be blackmarket cigarette sales. Then a lot of people would go to jail for selling cigarettes and people that smoke would go to jail. Would be like Prohibition (booze sales in the 1920's). |

Yes. I don't understand at the end of the day why people start in the first place? Because it is know commonly to everyone that it takes away good health with it. So there is the obvious reason that people start to achieve this "look" or whatevr they want to call it regardless of what might happen to them And after a good while your hooked and most times people to not get off them. |

Yes, you can get lung cancer, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, and so much more but aside from being harmful to your self ETS (Environmental Tobacco Smoke) can also harm non-smokers who have made the decision to live smoke free. ETS can cause asthma and other things in young kids and can increase the risk of lung cancer in non-smokers. The sidestream smoke, smoke coming from a the burning end of a cigar, cigarette, etc. has carcinogens which are cancer causing agents that can lead to tumors and increase the risk of cancers. So YES IT SHOULD BE ILLEGAL |

You know what if i am the president or a mayor in my country i would make it illegal because smoking is not good for my people specially the young ones. And I feel concerned when i see a child dying because of a lung cancer, cause by smoking. And it makes me guilty that i didnt take care of my people. Thats all!! |
