Absolutely, I have heard of people with Down's who are very talented musicans, artists etc... any creative talent is an enjoyable and theraputic passtime, whether you have Down's or not. |

That's a great question. Of course there are different levels of ability associated with this syndrome, but it depends how we want to categorise it. I prefer to think that people that are different orientated give me a great opportunity to see the world in a way I would never have considered. Sorry if this seems patronising, I honestly don't mean to be because I'm not saying my view is any better. What is musical ability I think is the question here. I think it is how much pleasure do you get from playing music to yourself or other. In my work with people with dementia, I am amazed by the way people create such interesting (to me) music. It's all relative. |

I would say it probably depends very much on that particular person's level of Down's as well as your definition of ' play'. There are people with Down's syndrome who hold jobs, act, model, horse ride, I've never come across one who does, but I wouldn't say it would be impossible for them to play something to a basic level at least, the severity of Down's differs greatly and I've met some children who you'ld barely know had it without looking at their facce. |

hi their was a girl at my school with Downs syndrome who was very accomplished on the recorder. i think if the person has a love for it they should be encouraged i think so much related to ability in any individual with the condition can hinge on the corect encouragement and belief in what could not in the disability's for example i have cerebral palsy my parents were told that i would not achive academical i am just starting a PhD so i think this proves nothing is beyond possibility hope this helps |

A person with downs syndrome can do anything anybody else can do, it just may take a bit longer to train them. BUT once trained they never forget and some are very talented. Downs Syndrome does not mean stupid. Mentally challenged people are a long way from stupid. |

It honestly depends on the severity of the down's the person has. There is a huge gradiant - somebody can have a 'touch of down's' (I have one girl who has the mildest case of DS I have ever seen and knows she has it and is embarrassed over it) and then there are down's people who are 100% in need of help and care from other folks. I would say if they are able to learn at any level, they should be able to learn to play an instrument. |

Tell me...

couse they can......believe it or not but they can more more capable of doing things than people that doesnt have Down Syndrome |

of course they can if blind people can play the piano and other instruments there is no reason why somebody with Downs Syndrome can't. |

I believe so.
In fact, I remember doing volunteer work with moderately retarded people, and this one man played the harmonica, beautifully. |
