Soft drinks and eyes?
I wonder, are there any links between drinking soft drinks (especially diet soft drinks) and decreasing vision? Drinking diet soft drinks is one of my vices (and probably my only vice when it comes to my diet), so i wonder if it could possibly be affect my vision. Can any of the ingredients, like aspartame, have a negative effect on vision?

Don't tell me that sodas have been proven to cause problems like heart disease, either. I know about that.

Thanks for your help!

No but if you drink large amounts of even diet soft drink you could still develop diabetes which in turn can effect the eye nerves which can lead to blindness

no, i dont think those 2 are related in any way.

i dont think anyone in the medical profession even *suspects* a link between those 2.

aspartame is an excito-toxin and i would recommend you stay away from it.

the phosphoric acid in soft drinks is also hard on your system since it's acidic properties are above what the body will normally produce on it's own.

the simple carbohydrates in soda will raise your blood pressure and i personally notice when my blood pressure shoots up my vision will begin to blur with each heart beat.

however, if it interests you, you can eat a cucumber to lower your blood pressure and it will help stabilize your vision. oranges and gingko biloba are good for this, too.
oranges also have soluble fibre which helps slowly release sugar into the bloodstream and that helps control your blood pressure, too.

There is no scientific correlation between drinking soft drinks and decreasing vision. Regular soft drinks mainly consist of refined sugar, flavor syrup, purified water, concentrate and carbon dioxide....
I am yet to come across any research proving any of these ingredient have any negative affects on vision. In the case of soft drinks with sugar.... I guess if you became diabetic from drinking too many soft drinks then in that case they could have a negative affect on your vision.
As for the diet soft drinks, at this time it is thought the levels of aspartame in them are safe for human consumption and have no ill effects on our health.
Personally I am still a tiny bit skeptical on the complete safety of aspartame.... because most of the research I have seen that proves it is safe is funded by companies that sell aspartame.
As long as you consume soft drinks in moderation you shouldn't experience any ill affects from them :)
