Have i broken my kneecap??
i fell down the stairs and hurt my knee. then i had to do sport and ran 3.2km. also i then slipped in the bathroom. my knee really kills and i have trouble moving it, but it is not swelled or anything, and it is really bruised. could it be broken and my parents don't think anything is wrong, what can i do??
Usually the sign of fracture is swelling. I have broken my ankles many times and my ankles have gotten swollen. I didn't think anything of it and continued to walk on it. It was not painful enough to the point where i couldn't walk on it. I am always concerned about myself so i went to the hospital, and got x-rayed. It turns out It was broken. If it is not swelling it may just be severe hemoraging, which also should be taken care of by a specialist. You may have to drain the blood.

When you put pressure on your knee cap do you feel or hear any grating, can you make a noticable depression on the bone, can you feel any sliding? Those are signs of a broken patella. You'd pretty much know if it was broken right off the bat, it's most likely a bad sprain and you should try to stay off it as much as possible. My biggest concern would be hemmoraging getting blood behind the patella, but since you're not getting alot of sweeling I don't think that's the case.
Knee injuries take a long time to heal. No running, no kneeling, no bending.

-Is it worsening? Have you put warm, moist compresses on it? Are you able, even with some discomfort, to do full range of motion, and wiggle your toes? If you should notice any swelling and it does worsen, You should have it checked out. See your physician and he may order an X-ray. Talk to your parents and let them know if things do get worse ok?
My Evil Twin
Go to the doctor and have it checked out.

I would absolutley stop doing sports. I don't know how many high school kids I've seen who have hurt themselves beyond repair because their coaches/parents/friends/etc. told them it was nothing and to play on it. One of my friends in high school had it happen to him with his ankle, and now he can't even run. If you really honestly think that there may be a problem, go to the doctor's office. Knee injuries are painful and may last a long time even if there is nothing serious, but at the same time you don't want to mess your leg up for the rest of your life.

I broke my knee cap last year. Believe me, you would know if it were broken. However, it is very possible that you have stretched or strained the ligaments surrounding the knee. I would ice it alot and go to your drugstore and pick up a knee brace. They cost around 10.00. Wear it for a couple of weeks and see if that helps it get better. You may have some fluid around it from the injury and that will cause some difficulty moving it. The ice and stabilization will help it work itself off, but if you still have trouble in a couple of weeks, I would definitely say check with your Dr.
