BROKEN wrist! ICE or HEAT!?
I broke my wrist 2 weeks ago and I have a splint on. It is still a bit swollen and a bit uncomfortable. Should I be applying ice or heat at this period to make the swelling go down? Thanks
You should put both on it periodically or put on an icey heat pack. Keep it elevated, Ice Heat and rested.
TYPING shouldnt be the best thing for it right now!

alternate between both ice for 10 min and then one hour later heat for 10 min's and continue this till the swelling is down

you need to go to the ER.
a splint is very very very bad to have instead of a cast
when it comes to broken bones because you can still
wiggle it around.
you need to go to the ER or you'll have a very very
deformed wrist and it won't heal for a very long time.

You put ice on it. The reason being, it cools the area down and causes the blood vessels in the region to vasoconstrict, thus restricting blood and inflammatory chemicals entering the area.
You only put heat on it when the swelling has gone down. Putting heat on it will encourage blood back into the area and promote further healing.

With swollening you should put Ice, I have never once be told or taught to heat on a swollen injury.

Ice. for 15 mins every 2 to 4 hours.. take tylenol or ibuprofen for the pain..provided you can tolerate aspirin

when ever there is swelling involved ALWAYS use ice b/c heat would make the swelling worse.
