I was in a car accident on Thursday and I hit my nose on the steering wheel. Blood came gushing out instantly.
I didnt go to the doctor bc I do not have medical insurance. Since the accident I have gotten black eyes and the swelling in my nose has remained. I know that I need to go to the doctor to get a definite answer but I am trying to avoid an unneeded medical bill. What are the odds that I broke my nose. It isnt visibly crooked or anything but Ive gotten mixed answers from people simply because of the black eyes.
Let's see, it's been 4 days already. Chances are it has already started to heal if it's broken. Ice it ocassionally for the pain and swelling. Are you having a lot of difficulty breathing through it? If so go to the emergency room. If it seems to be getting better and you're breathing okay, leave it alone and let it heal. You're not going to die from a broken nose unless a bone shard was driven into your brain. In that case you would have been dead 4 days ago.

wow sounds like its broke to me but i would go and get it checked out. it don't matter if you have insurance, my mom didn't have any either and she got sick and didn't go and now she is passed. so please this could turn into something way bad just go and get it checked out. u can always do a payment plan if you have to. good-luck

If it is broken you may have breathing problems later and they will have to re break it to correct the problem. I would spend the money to have a Dr. look at it.

You could well have fractured it. I've done mine about three times, but they never did anything with it at the hospital.

it does not matter go to a doctor and have the other person pay for it if they dont have it go for the (insurens)? if not sus.

If it isn't crooked externally, then you have to ask yourself if the septum (the divider between the two sides) is also straight, If it's reasonably straight, then whether it's broken is a moot point.
Of more concern is the possibility of a fracture of a facial bone, but even there you have a few days to decide whether it really demands medical attention. Luck!

Wait until the swelling goes down (at least 1 month) and see if you still have a problem breathing. If you do and it is bothersome see a dr. at that time. There really isn't anything they could do now anyway.
