Contact Lenses?
I have severe astigmatism, and have been wearing glasses for almost 10 years now. I have been considering contact lenses. However, cost is also an issue. How much would a year's supply of lenses cost me? (My doc said that because I have severe astigmatism, it would be more expensive. I am near-sighted)
It depends. If it is a strong astigmatism as you say, you will need special lenses. Not all contact lenses made for an astigmatism have powers for a strong astigmatism. For a year supply, probably around $400, but it again it all depends.

It would be around $200, maybe a bit more if you dont have coupons or rebates. Its around the same $ as glasses to be honest. http://www.1800contacts.com/lens/acuvue-advance-astigmatism.htm

I have an astigmatism as well.
My eye doctor told me I couldn't wear lenses- WRONG- This is 2007 and they have lenses made specifically for astigmatism!
They are called Toric Lenses.
My doctor didn't give me that option, he gave me Biomedic55 to try and I don't even notice they are there, he was not happy I was smart enough to do my homework on Contacts and other laws.
They HAVE to give you your prescription by law, so don't let him fool you!
Mine tried to soak me for an extra $100, which was in fact covered by insurance- and charged me $100 for my lenses, when I can get them for $13.99-$16.99 a box online- for 4 boxes, (1 years worth) you do the math.

I have the same problem, the contacts can get pricey. My doc says that year long contacts can possibly do more damage to your eyes. I have 30 day disposable for astigmatism. They feel great and they are about 60 bucks for a six month supply. Thats the price around maryland. Hope this was helpful!

I have an astigmatism also. It costs about $200 - 250 for a 6 month supply. I factored that since I have no vision benefit, the contacts were still cheaper than a new set of glasses each year.
