Can you get immune to asthma??
My sister has mild asthma, when she gets a tight chest and wheezes she doesnt take her meds, after a couple of hours shes fine without taking anything...if she keeps doing this will she out grow the asthma as she can clearly cope without the ventolin?? Or can it cause it to get worse????
if you dont take your medicine while you might be fine now, you will most certainly will do damage later on as asthma puts other parts under much strain when you are having an attack and the more strain the more damage (heart, lungs blood pressure etc). will surly give trouble down the road, take it from me i know, i have been there, also it leaves you open to bronchitis, emphysema. take care of your health and now is the time while you are still young.
all the best

I'm afraid your sister will always be asthmatic but the good news is it can improve and even seem like its gone away for quite a long time but the unfortunate thing is if she gets a chest infection it will return, just by the fact that your sister still needs Ventolin means that it is still there and i would put money on the fact that if she goes for a run her breathing will deteriorate and she would need to use her inhaler but the up side is that a lot of sports people have asthma and can still lead a normal life there is a lot of things on the market that can help keep asthma in check.one thing a lot of people don't realise is liquorish is very good in helping asthma but not the sweetened kind you get the best sort of liquorish from health shops tell your sister to give it a try it does help

If she takes her meds like she should, It will help keep it under control
If it's a childhood thing, she might grow out of it

i wouldnt advise living without the medication, but the theory is that more children are being diagosed with asthma due to being brought up in too clean/hygenic an environment, whether this is true or not i dont know, but my brother was diagnosed with it when he was young, but actually grew out of it by the time he was in his teens for some reason.

no, asthma is a lung irratation
no IMMUNITY since we don't blame it on bacteria

I don't know whether it's possible to "grow out" of asthma as you get older, but my mum's went away for quite a few years after she had me (but was triggered again by flu).
I've heard about an "alternative treatment" for asthma which involves doing breathing exercises, but your sister would have to go to her doctor to find out how to do it (and if it's safe for her). She could only do it with a doctor's help though because trying to do it by herself could be really dangerous.
But for now, your sister should always take her medication if her asthma plays up because it can get serious really quickly. My mum's had to go to hospital in an ambulance several times when her ventolin didn't help her enough.
I'd say the best thing for your sister to do would be to go to the doctor and say that she's interested in a different treatment rather than ventolin and see what they say.
