Is it sleep apneoa?
my sister used to have sleep apneoa and it has stopped now but what i experience doesn't sound quite the same?
if i sleep on my back i often wake up as i assume i'm struggling to breath. its like there is something in my airway and i have to sit up with a start and try and take deep breaths. i now sleep in the recovery position and the problem never occurs. could it be linked to my asthama?
Sleep apnoea is usually caused when person is oboese.
but then again, if she is not obease it maybe something else. it doesnt always relate to obesity, as children can have sleep apnoea, whom usually have enlarged tonsils or adenoid.
I would check with dr, explain everything.
my mum stops breathing in her sleep, but she also stops breathing when she is out and about, and doing other normal things such as cooking.
her diagnosis is unknown as dr,s dont know why this is causing this. she has been takken under many tests in hospitals. she suffered this since her teens. and this condition is scary. especially seeing mum really trying her hardest to grasp for air

You may just be using too much pillow. If your head is tilted too much towards your chest, you're closing off the airway quite a bit. Since you're asthmatic, the problem would only be compounded.
Try out sleeping on less or no pillow, and see how it goes. It might be a good idea to talk with a doctor, either way.

I would think it is not sleep apneoa. Do you have any stresses in your life that could be disrupting your sleep pattern or causing you unwanted dreams that result in panic?
As suggested above, it could be weight related also.
I would consult your GP to get it checked incase.

Sounds possible particularly if you are obese and have a very thick neck. The NHS has now started to provide air pumps as part of the treatment.
YES it is sleep apneoa and no you dont have to be obese to suffer from it. {although it dose happen more to obese people}. My paretner suffer from it since he was a kid and my son also suffers from it.{My partner is very skinny}. It is treatable and you should get it treated as you do stop breathing and it can lead to slight brain damage. there are sleep places that can be refered by you doc.
