If you had pneumonia, do you end up with permanent scarring on your lungs?
and if so is there any danger of further damage to the lungs,
would stopping smoking have any effect, or does it make no difference
My daughter had pneumonia 3 times and as far as im aware there is an element of scarring present under x ray but she made a full recovery.hope she doesnt start smoking shes only 13.

I had pneumonia about 8 different times and yes, I have permanent scarring. My son and daughter used to get bronchitis a lot as teenagers. They have scars that show up on x rays, too. Could be they had pneumonia too, but if they did, it was never diagnosed

I have had repeated pneumonia and I am getting ready to have a procedure to help stop my problem with this.
I also have Pulmonary Fibrosis and CMV of Lungs and have been told by my Pulmonary Doc that Scarring can definately happen from this and that stopping smoking for me should be a must or would definately end up with other problems such as chronic bronchitis, emphasemia, etc. This has been very difficult!!! I still slip up!!!

i think it all depends on how bad the pneumonia was, stopping smoking will have a positive effect if you are having any lung problems so i would probably quit if i were you.

Most people recover from pneumonia without any permanent after effects. The risk of further damage is very small. Stopping smoking has a major benefit. 50% of people who smoke die from a smoking related illness. 97% of lung cancers occur in smokers (my own statistic - I did the research at St Mary's Hospital, London W2 - I looked at every case of lung cancer seen there from 1920 - 1970).
Is that your Malamute?

I had Pneumonia last year and for 3 months i was extremely ill.
I had several chest x-rays and had fluid on my lungs but luckily it left no lasting damage, however,im not a smoker.
Stopping smoking will always have a positive effect on your health

Hi Dolly
I had pneumonia when I was 16. The next year it came back again and I spent Christmas in hospital. But the doctors never mentioned any permenant damage and I've never had trouble since.
