My daugher is 8 years old, and has a serious overbite and 2 front teet are BIG. Some kids make fun of her and say she looks like a rabbit. Since she is still losing her baby teeth, l guess it's too early for braces. But is there anything that can be done now or do l have to wait until she is older.
Well it's common for the adult teeth to look too big at first because her head just hasn't grown into them yet :) I'm sorry about the teasing. But yes braces shouldn't be put on until all adult teeth are in; as for the overbite, that is something that you should discuss with an orthodontist.

Yeah, she is too young.
You will have wasted your money to make all her baby teeth straight, that are just going to fall out (if anyone out there, would actually put them on her, since she is so young).

Only if, her secondary set of teeth have all fully developed. If so, yes braces are acceptable.

depends, I think in these cases yes now is a good time, no time like the present. Good luck it is expensive but important.

You have to wait until all of her baby teeth are out. Talk to your dentist about what can be done in the meantime.

Actually, best time for starting orthodontic treatment is in late mixed dentition period, from this I mean when children have both permanent as well as some milk teeth present in their mouth. So your daughter is of perfect age for this treatment. 8-11 years of age is such a period when kids do have some weird alignment of teeth known as 'ugly duckling stage' in orthodontic terms. More sooner the treament starts, more satisfactory results can be expected.
Smarties!
she may be a good candidate for partial braces, or a retainer. one of my friends had braces only on her first front six teeth (three to the left of her mouth and three to the right). i would definitely talk to her dentist. i am going through braces, and i say that it is definitely worth it! 8 may seem young, but a girl i knew (different from the a fore mentioned) who got braces when she was nine. she had really bad teeth, and she had them for (i think) four years, maybe five. as long as most of her baby teeth are out, your daughter could get braces.

Depends, you should go ahead and take her to the orthodontist for a consult. He/she can tell you if there is anything that can be done. Some children are ready for braces at this age if their problems are more complicated than most or if they are farther along in teeth development. Also, they can many times start her with expanders, spacers, retainers, extractions, etc to help move things around slightly now. Go for a consult and see. The worst that can happen is they will say no, not yet lets wait longer.

My sons dentist said each kid is different and needs to be seen to decide..I know there were two kids in my sons second grade class that had them yet he had to wait till he was 12..See the dentist to be sure.
