I love my bellybutton. I tell my kids it's where they were part of me when they were growing. It's very special. |

Well, why would you want to remove it?
Is it doing you harm?
Well, you can cover it
I had surgery and they covered the cut with some kind of fake skin. And now when i touch it i cant feel it because there arent any nerve impulses being sent to my brain due to the artificial skin
So i mostly dont realize that im touching my skin if i touch that area
Or I think it actually helps your body somehow
But i really don't know
(research time) |

It is the portal into the enter soul,
just playing, heck if I know, but I would say you can cut it off. |

Your belly button was your side of the tunnel between your mom and you. It's there for fun. My cousin was born with all her guts outside her body, so the doctors opened her up and stuffed 'em back in, sewed her up... no belly button! People are probably grossed out by them because of the potential for forgetting to clean it out and stuff. |

i don't think it could be removed actually. maybe sewn together? maybe a skin patch over it? you have to much time on your hands don't you? how did you come up with this idea? |

Well, I'm not sure about the 'squeemish' bit (maybe because nobunny bothers to wash them out? XD).
There's not really a point: it is, in essence, a scar.
I see no reason why it couldn't be removed except that no one I've heard of has bothered. It's an expected part of the anatomy, even if it's not seen often.
Removing it would be sort of like removing an ear lobe or somesuch. No harm, but unless there's specific damage to the area there's no reason to, and people would look at it sideways. |

Yafooey!

The belly button could be useful if ever you lose a button to your shirt, jacket or coat. |

people would probably wonder if you were human if you didnt have one. |

i doubt you could remove it, i mean it was created because of the knot they tied in it when you were born, how do you get rid of a whole without creating a new one?? |

the belly button serves no function after birth. but its essential for proper growth and development of a fetus. |

There isn't any "point"---it's just what is left behind when the umbilical cord was cut. It can't be "removed". |

It does not need to be there. People have tummy tucks, and they reconstruct them for cosmetic reasons. |

yes it can be removed and covered with skin so it looks like you have no tummy button to the rest i dont know |

There actually are people who have them removed! They just cut around it and stitch it up. Personally, I don't know why anybody would want to do such a thing, but I've seen it done on TV. Not pretty! ;) |

Your belly button nourishes you in the early stages of life. You wouldn't want it surgically removed, because that's how aliens examine you when they beam you up. They stick you on a table and hook this pipe thingy to you and it fills you up with air then puts a camera inside to have a look around. If you had your belly button surgically removed, they'd get mad and drop you off out in space where you would die from having no oxygen. So belly buttons are important! Keep them! |
