I don't really know much about this stuff. After I went swimming in the school pool, my right eye started to hurt. I remember not wearing goggles when i first jumped in the pool. As mentioned above, it's the chlorine in the pool. If I am in a swimming pool and open my eyes I get a TERRIBLE burning sensation, and can barely keep my eyelids open to see. The only thing that helps me is to flush my eyes out with clean water and use ALOT of eye drops to help rehydrate my eyes.
As bad a reaction as I get, it has NEVER lasted more than a couple hours. If pain and irritation persists, please go see your physician! You only get one shot at your vision.

looks like the coring might has gotten into your eyes,, that's why it burns.. it should be getting better the next day or the day after.

Flush your eyes with water and blink until the green stuff comes out!! If it doesn't come out, book an appointment with your eye doctor, the fact that your lower part of the eye seems to be working well means it can't be serious. Green is mean! X33

It could just be an irritation from the chlorine. If it doesn't get better by tommorow and it itches, you might have pink eye and that calls for antibiotics.
