I heard that you are awake through the whole process, and that they numb you locally by giving you a shot in your eye! I would think that would be awfully painful. I'm fine with getting shots on my arm - those dont even hurt. but I would think getting a shot in your eye would be extremely painful.

Everyone need reading glasses as they age anyway, so it's pointless.
Just use contacts or nice cool glasses.

BEFORE you get the procedure, ask the Dr. if he can put in writing that you will never need glasses again, you will have PERFECT vision after the surgery, or you will not need any additional procedures. If you are satisfied with the answers, by all means have it done. Being an optician, I can tell you I have many patients that LOVE the procedure, but MANY that would never do it again. This is a personal decision, it is SURGERY. Make a list of ALL your concerns, ask the DR. then make your decision.

I know people who have had it...they said, no pain...best thing they ever did...very scary...you see the whole surgery...they all would recommend it...make sure you don't go to one of those cheap places, go to a reputable center.
