How do I prevent getting cramps on long distance runs?
When I run like a 5k or any distance around there I always get cramps in my shoulders, and under my ribs. Any good breathing techniques or anything else out there to help out?
thanks
I had the same problem sometimes too.
Now I drink at least five glasses of water a day to stay hydrated (but don't drink a lot just before running though).
Also, I eat at least one banana every day (usually in the morning with breakfast). Bananas contain lots of potassium, which helps prevent cramps.
Also, do a full-body stretch (not just your legs) before -- and after -- running. Besides stretching your legs, also stretch your arms, shoulders, back, and obliques (sides).
To stretch the obliques, clasp your fingers together and then put them above your head, with your palms facing up. Then dip your left shoulder down to stretch your right obliques. Dip your right shoulder down to stretch the left obliques.

Dont drink too much water...
I dont know why you get cramps when you drink before you run just try to wait until youre finished... it'll help... ALOT
And when youre finished running lift your forearms on the top of your head and rest them there for as long as you can it helps you lungs pump more air... so you wont be breathing too hard and your chest wont be hurting...
Good Luck
